King David was the second King of Israel after Saul, Bible scholars have it that there are many things that distinguished him from other kings that reigned after him. David was the only King that was said to be a man after GOD’S heart. He was the only king that reigned, retired and handed over the mantle of rulership to his son in his lifetime.
Of all the kings, he fought the highest numbers of wars without losing any battle. Bible scholars attributed the writing of the Book of Psalms to him and what he said in psalms 91 gave a little glimpse of what enabled him to achieve those exploits. He dwelt in the secret place of the most high.
In this write ups, we shall be looking on the subject “dwelling in the secret place of the most high”. I was listening to Pastor David Omolaja something ago and he defined the secret place as a place where we are all alone with GOD
According to King David, one cardinal benefit of dwelling in GOD’S secret place is that the person will abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Look at psalms 91 verse 1 “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty”.
When one is abiding under the shadow of the Almighty, the person is preserved and protected. Other benefits that follow the persons that are dwelling in the secret place of the most high.
See verse 3 “Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence”. That is to say, there is adequate deliverance for that person.
Again verses 4-6 has these to say “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday”. That is to say, there is adequate divine coverage.
Also, there is a divine exemption from calamities for the person that dwelt in the secret place of the most High. See verses 7 – 8 “A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked”.
Moreover, when we succeed in dwelling in the secret place of the most High, God gives us a concrete assurance of His divine shield from evil. We can see that in verses 10 – 11 “There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling”.
Also, there are angels on guard for the person dwelling in the secret place of the most High see verse 12 “For He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone”.
The next benefit is in verses 13 – 14 “Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore, will I deliver him: I will set him on high because he hath known my name”.
In verse 15, “He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him”. That is to say, God’s ears are attentive to the person that is dwelling in the secret place of the most High as to hear their calls anytime, any day, anywhere.
Finally in verse 16 “With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation”. That is to say, God has assured the person who is dwelling in His secret place long life. He will never allow the devil or any man or woman to cut his or her life short.
David knew how to dwell in the secret place of the most High or would say he dwelt in the secret place of the most High and that is why he enjoyed all these benefits. Therefore, if you and I will succeed as well in dwelling in the secret place of the most High, we will equally enjoy the same benefits as David enjoyed. Shalom.
